BUT I PASSED. I DID IT. IM EXCITED.
I have been trying to break into the PMU world for a minute but I’m gonna tell you something, I’m gonna be really transparent here. IM NERVOUS. Not because I think necessarily my work isn’t good (it is good, and I continue to get better as time goes by…I still struggle with comparing myself to others who are more experienced and that just isn’t fair to myself) but because I am scared that one day someone will not love the work I did or worse shatter someone’s confidence.
I know it’s probably a little irrational and probably won’t happen because I do care and that shows in my work, but my mission has and probably always will be to make others feel comfortable, safe and feel confident in their skin. Be it through facials, aesthetic treatments, relaxing treatments or through more transformative and restorative treatments, I’m there so the thought of not being able to deliver that to every person sometimes feels crippling and I get in my head about it.

So this journey is a huge deal for me. I’m excited to start and even more excited to service others.
Many tears, pep talks, continued education, hours of practice and so much more are finally being put to positive action.

This client (also my sister @hair_by_samantha_burwick and also the wicked talented owner of The Alchemy Room in Cincinnati, Ohio) received her first Oxygen Regenerative Treatment (and a lash lift and tint). This treatment combines biooxygen power and lactic acid.

A break from the usual content to bring you THE baby Esti. She’s been begging to come to work with me so today we did a spa day and she gave me a facial. She says when she gets big she wants “to have my studio and do facials” so you better believe I’m going to do everything I can to make that happen for her. I don’t claim and never will claim to know everything, there’s too much info out there and too many products and so many changes on the daily but I am a curious person and just nosey and hyperfixated enough to dig, and my notebook allows me to dig, analyze and continue learning, so it’s helpful for me.

I have a visual of your goals and what your using and I learn about what many others are using too, why it’s being used, and how and if it’s helping your skin goals.
I will always recommend my products I use in my studio first, but I understand options sometimes are necessary.
I’d much rather you come in and see me every so often and us work together long term than you see me once and spend everything on skincare that may or may not work for you and then you never come back.

The massage during a facial is the best part. Let’s be real. That and the hot towel. I LOVE facial massage and that is why I incorporate it into literally the entire facial. If you can’t get a facial massage, guess what scalp, arms, hands they’re getting a relaxing massage.
I also love incorporating gua sha or cool globes into my facials.

A few things you don’t need to worry about during your headspa appointment…
🫧 Remembering when you washed last, feeling bad because it been a minute since you washed, you came from the gym and think you’re hair is gross. I got you. You do not need to wash your hair before coming in.
🫧 I’m not going to judge you for the products you use. I have had some shock me a little (looking at you dawn dish soap) but I’m not gonna shame you for using what you like. I may make suggestions for alternatives if I think you’d benefit from something else but I’m not here to push or shame you. If you like it and it’s not hurting you, It’s fine by me.
🫧also the frequency at which you wash your scalp. Every day. Every week. Twice a week. It’s okay. You do you. Training your hair isn’t a thing imo. You can wash everyday if you want. My own personal hair care washing schedule varies. I won’t judge.
🫧SNORING. Yall it’s okay to snore. I mean maybe if you have sleep apnea we may need to take caution but I actually love when you snore or when you get so relaxed your jaw relaxes, you’re breath slows. It lets me know you’re comfy, feel safe and you’re relaxed. Get you a nap in.
🫧Responsibilities. The kids. The spouses. The job. The emotions. The STRESS. Feel free to leave all at the door, maybe not your kids or spouses lol leave them at home. These next 60 or 120 minutes are for you. Relax. Zen out. If you want to chat it up we totally can. If you want total silence we can also do that. I play music in the background, and if you tell me your music preferences before your appointment I’ll make a playlist or find one to play during your appointment. It’s usually in instrumental form. Just let your body and mind relax. Let your mind wander into dreamland.

Another week another row.
Still cool to see the progression from when I first started to the difference now. It’s about time to re up on fake skins to practice on. I’ve kept this sheet to do row by row of weeks so I can see the difference on 1 sheet in addition to my other fake skin practice rounds.
My big focus this summer is all things Areola tattooing and oncology esthetics.

Brow laminations are a perfect way to add symmetry, define your brows and give you a shortened beauty routine. Literally just wake up and go.
No tint or stain was added to this look. This gorgeous gal just wanted her brows to be a little more symmetrical, one was a littler higher up than the other so we did a lamination to achieve that goal while still keeping a very natural look.

Today was a day of lashes and brows so obviously a very good day.

This client has had lash lifts previously and her lashes have the sliiightest natural curve to them, her corner lashes always intertwine, and they’re a bit resistant, so we wanted to really lift and give some curl and seperate those bottom lashes from the top. Korean Technique was the way to go.
These results will last several weeks and no mascara needed.

As summer gets closer and closer I’d thought I’d provide you all with a firm reminder to put on your sunscreen and REAPPLY it.

Sunscreen isn’t just for summer time, sunny days or the beach. It’s year round.

Here’s a few reminders…
•Don’t forget your ears, lips, hands and neck!
•Everyone needs sunscreen - it’s estimated 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime…so let’s prevent as much as we can yeah?
•UPF clothing is a thing. 😎
•physical (aka mineral) sunscreen or chemical is personal preference- just make sure it’s broad spectrum of at least SPF 30 or higher
•Reapply at least every 2 hours regardless of the # of your spf. The # doesn’t tell you the time frame to reapply. 🙃
•If you’re swimming or super sweaty you’ll need to reapply more frequently
•That homemade sunscreen from the farmers market won’t do. Please don’t. There is no lab testing, it’s inconsistent formulation. You don’t know if it’s actually doing anything. It’s not worth it.
•Consistent and proper use of of sunscreen will help keep your skin looking youthful and healthy- it’s your line of defense against dark spots, premature aging and SKIN CANCER!

The best sunscreen for you is the one you will reapply.

Let’s talk about dermaplaning.
It’s a fan favorite service but I I know some have questions. Not every provider performs this service for their own reasons and that’s okay.

In short dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation for the skin and it temporarily rids your face of the little peach fuzz hairs.

There are some myths surrounding it but rest assured so long as your provider is trained, using safe practices, you’re using homecare and following aftercare instructions you’re going to LOVE how your skin looks and feels.

Did you all know in just the past year I’ve completed OVER 100 hours of continued education?
I’m curious as to the exact amount because I’m fairly certain just my 1 nipple course was 100 hours so I’m probably several hundred or thousands of hours deep but we’ll just say over 100 for sure 🥴
One thing to know about me is I’m ALWAYS enrolled, researching, practicing or doing something to grow or develop my skills and learn something new. I’m a forever student and a very curious person.
I do have to ground myself sometimes and really focus on one thing at a time because I am 11/10 the type to be doing a million things at once and some things require my full attention, so in recent days my focus has been dedicated to restorative services, such as 3-D Areola tattooing and sensitive skin.

This is where I thrive and remain most excited, passionate and curious.

Spring break, vacations and Summer is coming! You know what that means?

It means you don’t have time for mascara running down your face.

Lash lift and tints are a perfect way to open those eyes, lift those lashes and leave your mascara behind.
It’s a 3 step system plus 1 optional step (tint).
It’s a bit of a slightly stinky process, but it’s worth it. It smells faintly of a perm…iykyk.

Step 1: softens your lashes
Step 2: neutralizes and reshapes (the lift and curl part)
Optional: most people do this part, but you don’t have to. We add tint (most everyone does black tint for that mascara effect) after step 2.
Step 3: condition and rehydrate those lashes
The appointment takes about an hour and results last for about 8 weeks.

Hey, I’m Jess—the founder of BelleRaye Beauty Studio and a licensed cosmetologist with a lifelong love for all things beauty.
